IT’S THAT TIME of YEAR:
We ask you to participate with us in one of our most joyful days in our church year!
On this blessed day, CHRISTMAS, when we honor the nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the doors of the 7th Street Bistro Soup Kitchen will be open wide to greet and offer peace and hope to homeless and working poor people living in Newark.
Our guests will hear again the events of the ‘Greatest Story Ever Told’. They will sing their favorite Christmas carols; fellowship with their neighbors; and, break bread together with a delicious, traditional holiday dinner of turkey and all the trimmings!
This will be the fourteenth year in which the 7th Street Bistro has sponsored the Annual Christmas Day Dinner at the Memorial West Presbyterian Church, 286 South 7th Street in Newark, NJ. The hours for the dinner are from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
To make the joy of this day complete, the 7th Street Bistro is reaching out to our sister churches in the Presbytery, asking for donations of small, inexpensive gifts for all in attendance.
Some items you might consider donating include:
- Warm hats or caps for children or adults
- Mittens and/or gloves for children or adults
- Scarves and/or cozy pairs of socks
- A toy or book for a child of any age
- A cake, pie or other dessert for the dinner
The 7th Street Bistro is a collaboration between three Presbyterian churches in the Presbytery: Livingston, First and Trinity in South Orange, and the Memorial West Church. Throughout the year, the Bistro serve lunch every Saturday to the community, with coverage provided by the three churches. Further assistance for its hunger mission comes from the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair and the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church of Northern NJ.
