Event on April 24, 2010
As everyone is well aware, Climate Change presents a moral, ethical, and spiritual challenge for our communities. The increasing frequency of natural disasters and extreme weather events present a devastating threat to the world's most vulnerable, as evidenced by Hurricane Katrina. We cannot afford inaction, not only because of the potential opportunities on the horizon from a new green economy.
Many will be gathering to send a message to our national leaders by gathering en masse on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. and demonstrate that fair, ambitious, and comprehensive climate policy is a moral imperative. The Mall, the nation's town square, has seen many course changing moments, and on April 25, it will bear witness to yet another.
The Climate Rally on Sunday, April 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., will feature progressive voices, live music and your vision for a healthier environment, a stronger economy and a brighter future. Please lead your congregation to participate in this important event. Greater Washington Interfaith Power and Light is putting together an interfaith block at the rally. Please contact Christina Cemansky at 202-744-8463 or via email at cermansky@earthday.org for more details.
Earth Day Network can provide your congregation with travel stipends for gas to attend the rally. Please let us know if your church has a bus or a van to bring a delegation to the rally. We are also looking for Climate Majority Leaders to be our point of contact with your church, coordinate delegations and maybe to contact other leaders (religious, students, environmentalists, etc.) in your community who would like to help us mobilize to bring a delegation to the rally.
Please contact Christina Cemansky via the above methods for all of your transportation, volunteer and other questions for the Earth Day Rally on Sunday, April 25th.
