On September 21, 2009 "Brick City" a Sundance Channel five-episode documentary series filmed for nine months in 2008 and produced by Executive Producer Forrest Whitaker will air tonight. The film premiered at Newark Symphony Hall on September 15th. The film sheds some light about some of the challenges in some of the areas of the City of Newark by tracking some gang bangers, Mayor Cory Booker, Police Director Garry McCarthy and others. The premier made front cover of the Newark Star Ledger news paper. Watch the series Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10:00 p.m. on the Sundance Channel. Check your local cable guide for stations. This documentary series is worth watching. While it does not capture every nuance of the challenges and opportunities facing all of us who love Newark and the people who live and work there, it offers a compelling argument for why Newark will become better than it is and why it matters so much that our congregations do our best to see that it does.
